On 5th November, BUST met with representatives of the Bristol Health Services Plan (BHSP) to review progress of the Breast Care Services Review.

The BHSP has produced a progress report that includes report on current status by BUST and a Patient Stakeholders’ Requirements Document that was produced in June 2008, following a meeting of local breast cancer groups and some patients unaffiliated to any groups. Bristol Health Scrutiny Commission will review the BHSP report during November. The Commission is a Local Authority Overview and Scrutiny Committee (OSC). They were formed by the Government in 2003 and given the power to scrutinise local health services. OSCs review both major changes and the ongoing operation and planning of services. Their aim is to make the NHS more publicly accountable and responsive to local communities.

North Somerset and South Gloucestershire also have OSCs and representatives from them meet with members of Bristol OSC to form the Joint Health Scrutiny Committee to review health matters affecting all three areas.
